My apologies if someone has already posted this comparison, but I've been browsing threads since the announcement and haven't seen this addressed specifically. I know the uMBP 13" screens are now officially much better, but has anybody has a chance to compare a 10/08 uMBP 15" screen with the new uMBP 15" screen? I was looking at upgrading to a unibody, and while the new models are nice the price drops on the 10/08 model are very tempting. The only thing that's pointing me towards the new one is if the screen is really that much better and I'm wondering if the old one can run more than 4GB of RAM after the software updates.

Anyway, has anyone compared the new and prior unibody screens on the 15" MBP and is there any significant real world improvement?

I don't think there has been any change to the 15" MBP screen. That's what an Apple employee said in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=388344

While his comments were interesting, the official Apple press release says this:

The perfect balance of performance and portability, the 15-inch MacBook Pro now features a seven hour built-in battery, an SD card slot, an improved LED-backlit display with 60 percent greater color gamut and 4GB of RAM across the line at an entry price $300 less than before.

I find it hard to believe that Apple would put that on a press release if it were a total lie. Regardless, it would be great to hear a real world comparison so we know what the material difference is.

What do they mean by 'new macbook pro'...

It could all be a com. tweak to make it sound like the new 15" has a better display, when it's actually compared to pre-unibody generations.

But apparently, someone compared the new 13" to the previous 15" unibody and claims it's brighter and more saturated... so maybe they now have even better displays after all (see here:

I wish someone would just check the screen number in the parameters, so we can finally have a reliable answer. Personally, I'm stuck in south of France, and there isn't even an Apple store in Paris yet, so...
