How to get battery percentage in 3.0?

I installed 3.0 on both mine and my father's iPhone. I previously was jailbroken and had numeric battery. Mine automatically had the percentage when I installed it. My father's, however did not. Does anybody know what the deal is with this?

Its a feature for 3.0 software, but is hidden for the 3G users, and accessible for 3GS users. For it to work on the 3G iPhone, you will have to jailbreak it, and change some of the files around so you can have the option to turn it off/on in the settings of your iPhone.

I didn't jailbreak 3.0 though. It's in a totally different format than it was on 2.2.1

I didn't realise this, where did you hear that, I thought the percentage was purely down to files being left over from jailbreaking.

Often when users go from jailbroken with battery percentage to not jailbroken, the batty percentage stay for some reason, which is why I think you have it.
I don't think it will be available until the official release of 3.0, if that's a new feature at all.

Straight from the horse's mouth.

The battery icon in the upper-right corner shows the battery level or charging status. You can also display the percentage of the battery charge (iPhone 3G S only).

Ah. Thanks.
That's pretty strange. I expect this to be the third generation iPod touch then.

Various threads are filled with posts about how to get the % meter, and even some outrage that it doesn't work. Is it really that big of a deal?? The battery bar always tells me what I need to know.

Exactly, I don't understand why it is so important to some people

It's just really useful to be able to know exactly what is left on the battery. I have it on my laptops too. You can't always tell just from the picture what is left. Thats why i downloaded Free Memory. Purely for the battery % indicator.

You'd be surprised at how inaccurate the meter is. I remember once I compared it to the percentage. The percentage was in the low 40's. the meter looked about 2/3 full.

As did I. Knowing the percentage with a numeric value is nice.

Plus, Free Memory allows you to free memory when it falls below 20%.

Thats strange, since the graphic that is displayed is calculated from the same numbers as the percentage.

There's only a few battery icons. The meter doesn't get smeller pixel-by-pixel.

I'm not sure why the discrepancy, but I bet once you get the % meter you'll find it's inaccurate as well. In other words, it will drop very slowly for a while then take a big "jump" down, or maybe even reverse and go up sometimes. I see this on laptops. The problem is that measuring remaining battery life is an inexact science to begin with. So if you're tying to get a better sense of how many minutes or hours you have left, you'll be disappointed.
