trying to play a japanese dvd .

i bought a dvd in japan , and i am trying to play it . Of course it wants to change my setting on my DVD drive to region 2.

I have ripped dvd's before using mac the ripper , but this rip comes up with a lot of bad sectors and VLC will not play it either .
any hints how i could do this ?
