Do you think the iPhone 3G S uses the same back as the iPhone 3G?

It uses the exact same body.

I sure as hell hope so because my Otterbox Defender case shows up today.

I am kind of wondering about this as well, but we won't have definite answer until the review starts popping up.

Whilst they claim it to be same, with slight difference in font colour etc. I am thinking of slightly different tone of colours esp for white one... they better have changed manufac process otherwise I will be very disappointed...

It's the exact same shape and dimensions. Here's to hoping that they improved the build quality...
