I just noticed two purchased apps have the wrong icons.

One has the icon of a different purchased app.

The other has the icon of one of my own developed (but not yet released) apps.

The text/name below the icon reflects the actual program that would launch, but the picture is for a different app in both cases.

I could probably fix it by deleting and reinstalling, but I'm curious if anyone else noticed this. I have a 3.0 o.s. (the official version, released to developers a few days ago), and a 3G iPhone. I have pretty much filled up the 11 pages of apps, but there are some empty spaces. This is weird.

That happened to me too when I first updated. Really strange. I restarted and haven't had another issue though.

My friend and I are having the same issue with our phones. I've reset the phone, turned it off and on..nothing has helped. I'd rather not lose all my data in those apps if at all possible.

Anyone?

Same here...it's on multiple pages...probably from moving the apps from page to page I'm assuming. VERY LAME. Anybody have any suggestions. Reset didn't work. Short of deleting and re-downloading each app that has a problem I can't find a solution.

HELP APPLE!!!!

I'm having the same problem. I even deleted the app with the wrong icon, and re-installed it, yet it didn't held.

I did a complete restore (not by choice... all my music/videos/etc were unavailable and couldn't sync) to factory settings, and resynced, and still have this problem. Wrong icons for wrong apps (different ones this time). Very weird.

I also have this problem. My facebook app is showing the icon from the Flixster app and a few icons are split like in the screenshot below.

It seems like a lot of people are having this problem so I am just going to live with it until it is fixed in the next update.

Yep, I'm experiencing that, and after a full restore. Weird.

I am having the same issue as well. It started when i downloaded Flight Control, intead of having the usual plane icon, it has the BeeJive icon, really weird!

the only two times it has happened to me is when I downloaded a app from the phone its self. Both times required a restore.

I had the same problem. I tried to delete and reinstall but it didn't work. I solved the problem by uninstalling the app, rebooting the phone and then reinstalling.

My IM+ icon went gray. I was able to delete the app and resync to get it back, but after my next restart it went gray again.

does a hard reset mean a reboot, or does mean a full wipe/restore? the gray icon problem manifests after a reboot (holding both buttons until you see the apple logo). I now have 2 gray icons and fear I will soon have more.

a hard reset is when you hold the lock and home button for 15 seconds....its truely rebooting the phone

ok, well, a hard reset actually causes the problem. the icon had been fixed after a re-install of the app, but the gray icon comes back after the reboot

I've seen this happen with 4 new apps.

It doesn't seem to have a fix. I've done a hard reset and everything but delete the app and download again, but I see that that hasn't helped either.

Has anyone come up with a way to fix this? Is Apple aware that this is a problem? The name of the app is fine, but the icon is from a different app.

I've seen some say that only removing apps from iTunes and not the phone itself will solve the problem. Since 3.0 i've only removed apps using the iTunes sync selected apps tab and haven't experienced the problem yet - YMMV.

I did this with the apps that had the wrong/grayed icon (using iTunes) and it worked. But you DO lose your progress in any game that you've played (Doom Resurrection ).

At least the icons are right now.

i guess i am one of the lucky ones who has had no trouble
knock on wood that nothing will happen hopefully they will get 3.1 out soon with bug fixes to fix this issue

I first experienced this a few days ago when I DL'd Battery Go! from the App Store OTA. What I was getting was a "greyed-out" version of the WSJ app icon in place of Battery Go!'s native icon.

I immediately emailed the Dev who promptly responded that while he hasn't seen the error on his personal iPhone, he has received several emails about this situation and pointed me to a TUAW forum where this problem has been pretty well established as a error within OS 3.0, hence it affecting multiple apps with no rhyme or reason.

The problem seems to start after doing a hard-reset. That's at least how it happened to me, as I usually do a hard-reset to clear the phone's cache after DLing any new apps. In other words, when I finished DLing Battery Go! it had the correct icon, and only after a hard-reset did the error show itself.

The only way to fix it right now is to do a synch with "Sync Apps" unchecked, wiping all non-native apps off your phone, and then resyncing all desired apps back on to the phone. You will of course loose any stored app info and have to re-sign in / establish preferences again, etc.

So, Apple really needs to address this bug in a hopefully soon to be released OS 3.1.

Peace,

There is a way to fix this. You have to delete one of the apps that is messing up from your iPhone (preferably a free one that doesn't have any information stored that you don't want to lose). Then go back to the App Store on your iPhone, and redownload the application you just deleted. Once is starts downloading click on the app icon to pause the download process, then turn off your phone only using the slider (not a hard reset). Turn your iPhone back on and finish the download. This should fix the icons for all of the apps. At least it has been working for me :)

So, clicking the icon once stops the download and clicking it again resumes the download? How do you turn off the phone using the slider? Do you hold the On/Off button until the slider appears and then you turn it off? Thanks for your help

Yeah, if you click the app icon while it is download, it should pause the download. Then hold down the On/Off button until the slider appears and then turn it off that way. Then turn in on the same way. Hopefully that will fix the problem - like I said it has been working for me so far :)

Thanks! This worked for me.
