YouTube Video Comparison via Direct File or YouTube Upload Button

I uploaded a video twice that I shot on my iphone 3G S. I thought I would do a comparison of the quality sent to youtube via the youtube upload button and taken directly off the iphone and uploaded to youtube from my PC.

Video Sent from iphone via youtube button
iphone recompresses video with lower bitrate and resamples to 480x360 resulting in a 3.5mb file
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w4MpVCWPf0

Video taken from the iphone via "Scanner and Cameras" on PC
Video size is 640x480 and file size is 64.7mb
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttfb29SXECM

Once it ends up on youtube, the quality is pretty much the same even though the 640x480 version displays the HQ button. There is a small problem with jaggies though when using the 640x480 version so maybe using the YouTube upload button on the iphone might be better is some cases.

If you compare the video at 1:37 when it is changing adjusting the exposure it does not have as many artifacts in the compression in the larger file.

When playing back on your computer, the 640x480 file is much better of course and the file size is almost 20x as large.

Woah, that's surprisingly awesome. Weird watching a video w/ that resolution though.

Here is a video

and now trimmed.Awesome!!!!!!!!!
I did find when you trim it doesnt rename the file. Kind of sucks when you try to import your video.

Do YouTube videos look better, too? Like, while on the road?

Because when I'm riding shotgun with my buddies and I decide to fire up YouTube, I hate the ungodly blocky look of it. It looks VERY good, however, with WiFi on.

Any real world upload limit via 3g

How long a video clip can we expect to upload via 3g direct to YouTube?

Oh great, now there are going to be vertical videos all over the place. Hopefully people learn to hold it sideways.

I don't think holding it Sideways will help, will it?

Looking at this video, it looks like it doesn't auto rotate anyway.

Why would you want it to auto rotate during recording? That doesn't make any sense. You start recording either vertically or horizontally from the start and it stays that way.

I haven't test, but I think the quality of the video is a lot better in the actual file and uploading through the computer rather than the iphone.

When I uploaded a video via 3g (not wifi) it said it compressed the video.
