U.S. Apple Retail Store iPhone 3GS Supplies Begin to Tighten
![]() Late last week, we reported that Apple had posted an online availability database showing iPhone 3GS stock levels at each of its over 200 U.S. retail stores. At the time, the database showed solid availability of the new iPhone, with nearly 90% of stores showing availability of all four iPhone 3GS models and only five stores being completely sold out. Apple's retail store stock levels declined over the course of the weekend, and the availability database is now showing significant iPhone 3GS shortages. According to the database, only about 40-45% of Apple's retail stores currently maintain stock of all four models, while nearly 15% of stores are completely sold out. Three states are currently listed as being entirely out of stock of all four models: Alabama (two stores), Oregon (three stores), and Utah (one store). Interesting. I wonder how long before they can keep up with all demand? I thought the 3g was impossible to find for a long time.

Here we go! Get on the pre-order list! Demand is not going to let up anytime soon!

While the retail stores don't have them ATT does if you order one online. I ordered a new 32gig 3gs Saturday afternoon upgrading an eligible line and its slated for delivery on Tuesday before 3pm.

Great news ... sort of. Nothing quite like a new Apple product release to stimulate the economy. Of course ... that doesn't really help General Motors much, does it?
![]() Electronic, Gadget, Computer, Software and cellular phone sales can be pretty lucrative. Are they big enough to affect the Dow? Last I checked, Apple wasn't one of the companies included on the average, was it? I know Micro$oft is.

It's not *that* bad. I'm in a high-demand area and just ordered one from my local at&t store. They "officially" tell you 7-14 days but said it's taking about 4 days for the phone to come in. Mine just shipped and should be in the store tomorrow.

Not surprising....
I was at the Apple stores last week. Both stores in my area had lines for the iPhone 3GS. I went to one store to get a 13" Macbook Pro 2.5GHz and they ran out. I went to the next store and got the last 13" 2.5GHz in stock. Both stores were FULL of customers with long lines outside for different products. I had to get in line to get a MacBook!!! Can you believe it???

Rare in Canada too
I'm up in Ottawa, Canada, and I've been trying for almost a week to get my hands on one, but not one Rogers store in the region has any models (there are no Apple Stores in the area). After having called most of them, only one was getting in a new shipment this week (and the shipment was only expected to be 15-20 total)... the rest were all in the dark as to how long it might be before they'd get any at all.

Let's see what things look like after they've refilled supplies after the weekend.
If I go to my grocery store on Monday morn., quite often they're out of milk. Guess what--there's not a milk shortage. |

I'm far from a fanboy and I don't buy everything that comes out, only what I like and is good for me but in my opinion the first time I saw a mac was at my cousins house when I was 9, and I completely fell in love with it and ever since I got a mac I never looked back literally I have 3 PC's in my house and all of them are dead and I never use them anymore. Not that I fell into apples marketting but I never even knew what Apple was the computer was just so fast and easy to use even with 512mb of ram! on the first version of Tiger!EIther way what I am saying is that people don't like apple for a lot of reasons like investors say MS is better but in reality apple is the one who always comes up with something to WOW everyone.

also the amount of grocery stores vs. apple stores vary alot, you will have at least 2 - 3 grocery stores not counting supermarkets or convinient shops compared to 1 apple store in your COUNTY , I live in LA and we only have about 3 - 5 apple stores in our county so yeah, and it's a major city too.

People are starting to finally realize that the 3GS is no minor upgrade! When you go from a 3G to a 3GS you don't notice the speed increase as much, it's only when you go from using a 3GS to a 3G that you notice that there is an extreme difference. It's like going from my MacBook Pro to my Powerbook G4.

It's probably because they stocked the U.S. stores last week, and then began shipping 100% of iPhones manufactured over to the other side of the world for their initial launches. (the 3GS was released on the U.S. about a week before it was released in the rest of the world)

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if demand stays steady or increases over the next few weeks. After seeing the situation with the 3G and being in it with the original iPhone, even though I knew I was going to buy it with 3.0 I wasn't in a super huge hurry too, I preferred to skip the opening rush and wait until stock was plentiful.
Then the online availably tool came online which an Apple Store rep told me about and said that even though they had them in stock to expect an hour and a half wait to buy one, at 2PM on a workday, so I decided to wait until 8AM on Saturday. Turns out even though I arrived at 7:50 on Saturday there were only two of us in line so it was a quick and easy process. I never saw a compelling reason to upgrade to the 3G but I can't imagine leaving the iPhone. I think once people aren't afraid of waiting in line forever you will see a steady stream of 2G upgraders, especially as contracts end for those who were a little late to first iPhone. |
