I recently bought the new base model 13-inch MacBook Pro, which was running perfectly until yesterday. Yesterday, the machine ran out of battery power and went into safe sleep. When I plugged in the power cord and woke it up, the bluetooth symbol in the menu bar had a jagged line through it. On restart, the bluetooth symbol had simply disappeared, and system profiler is showing bluetooth as "No information found.".

I have had this problem before with a 2006 macbook, but it was solved by a restart. On searching the web I have found a number of suggested solutions, each of which I have tried: resetting PRAM, resetting SMC, deleting various bluetooth preferences, reinstalling OS X. None of these suggested solutions have worked.

Anyone else have this problem with their new mid-2009 macbook pro? Any solution? Or is this just one for Applecare?

So you tried reinstalling OS X?

Then it can't be a problem with the OS or drivers, try taking it to the Apple Store. It might just be a bad bluetooth chip inside the computer.:(

Hi Froob,

Did you ever find a solution to your Bluetooth problem? I'm seeing the same thing on my MBP 13".

I Had The Same Problem!

I was bringing in my Magic Mouse for a repair and I tried to pair the new one to my macbook pro 13 inch and it would not work. It first didn't know that it had a bluetooth card in it and then it came back and didn't see any of the devices at the apple store (which was a lot.)The guy there tried to do diagnostics on it and the mac all failed them. He even booted it off a different drive! He said that the card was dead or malfunctioning and that they were going to have to put a different card in. He also said the card was in the display and it would need a new top half!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek:And it would take 5-7 days!:eek::eek:. Now I won't have the computer for the rest of the week! That was March 15th 2010 and now it is March 17 2010. Only 3-6 more days until I get my macbook pro back:) Hopefully this is helpful. Anyone who has the problem bring it to the apple store. They will fix it.

I had this happen to my last uMBP. Bluetooth simply vanished. Apple had to replace the logic board.
