iMac stuck on grey logo screen

My iMac won't boot up and is stuck on the loading screen with the apple logo. Ive tried almost everything. It started doing this after I had to do an archive install (of OS X) because it was taking 20minutes to boot up. I have windows on a separate partition and that boots up fine. Ive been having a lot of problems recently with my iMac and its getting annoying....

Sounds like you may have a bad harddrive. Still have a warranty on it? I would hit them up for a repair.

Does OS X start up successfully in safe mode (startup holding shift)?

I'll 2nd that. Definitely sounds like a bad/dying HHD.
