Microsoft Works is an app that seems to be popular among some college students for their class assignments. Part of the attraction appears to be the fact that their professors don't have MS Works and that most have no way to convert the files. When the professor keels over dead in frustration, students get extra days off.

To the best of my knowledge, the only utility on the Mac that can handle the Works format is Dataviz's MacLinkPlus Deluxe. This file conversion utility is a must for Mac users who have to deal with numerous file formats. It handles MS Works up to MS Works 95.

I think wps is WordPerfect, but even if not, download icWord.

You'll get a 30-day tryout and it opens lots and lots of filetypes, which you can then convert to a usable file.
