'Documents to Go' Updated With Cut, Copy and Paste, Pinch to Zoom, and More
![]() iPhone Alley points out that Dataviz has recently updated its Documents to Go office suite for the iPhone to add several new features, the most important of which is the inclusion of support for Apple's systemwide cut, copy, and paste tools. The suite comes in two flavors: a basic version [App Store, $4.99] and an enhanced version [App Store, $9.99] offering support for Microsoft Exchange attachments. New features include: Quote:

Does this allow you to format (change font, font size, bold, etc) MS Word documents, or only type
and cut/copy/paste to edit MS Word documents? (I would assume having the addtional RAM of the 3GS makes a huge difference) |

For some reason it doesn't include the ability to change the font type or size. The ability to email the file is really nice though. It uses the built in mail and doesn't even exit the app! I didn't realize 3.0 supported this attachment functionality. Also sliding your finger on the toolbar for more formatting is very nice, along with the ability to edit full screen with a tap of the finger, which is also supported in landscape mode. You can also toggle the toolbar on or off with a single tap. This interface is very effective and polished. Now it only needs a few more features. By the way, you can't copy and paste images into the document, which is unfortunate

Hmm, would anyone who has both QuickOffice and Docs to Go say it's better than QuickOffice? I need an office suite on my iPod touch and I'm unsure on which one to choose. Money is not a huge deciding factor, but I need basic functionality.

I have both and Docs To Go has Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a PDF viewer. Docs to go has much more functionality (formatting of Word Docs) along with the other advertised functions. At this point, Docs to Go is the better app, imo.

I'm like you SnowLeopard2008. I've been going back and forth on which one to buy. I'm leaning toward QO for a few reasons. I don't like the idea of a desktop client and WiFi transfer is nice. Email attachments is also something that is important to me. I would be nice to receive an email and be able to work from the attachment.

Hey guys,
Tell me what you do with documents to go on the iPhone, if you don't mind. I'd like to hear about what it can do.... To me it sounds like a good user interface thingy, but to do what kind of things is my question. |

I have both of them. I like DTG much better. It syncs both ways. Any change I make in my ipod touch, syncs it to my document in my desktop. Most of the changes on DTG work very well in my desktop. Justifying in QO doesn't work very well. It works all of the time in DTG. I also like a lot the new zoom feature. It noly zooms the font and not the whole page. As I am using Office 2007, DTG closes the deal for me.

Does either app allow you to work on documents received as email attachments? This one little feature and I will never have to travel with a laptop again....!

Just bought it today. A very great tool so I can show clients what my company does. I can even e-mail them Brochures, quotes, App. notes and procedures. Makes both my original iPhone & iPhone 3GS that much better. Great Job!

I bought the version with Exchange support to be covered for the future. Unfortunately they didn't add the ability to use gmail, yahoo etc. for this more expensive one....arrgghhh! Is there any word on future versions adding this?

![]() I wish Apple would release an official Apple Docs App and they can even charge for it if they want. I just wish Apple would make one themselves. As the iPhone has become more and more mainstream, and Microsoft has even accepted it (evidenced by Microsoft Exchange support), I am very surprised that Microsoft (which sells Office for Macs) has not made an official Microsoft Office App for the iPhone and sold it for $$. I would think Microsoft would have already jumped on this opportunity and assert their dominance on the iPhone (for Office, anyway) early on in the game. Just as they have dominated computers with Office, I would think they would be trying to sell a copy of Office to everyone that buys an iPhone. |

Hmm... I'm probably going with QuickOffice because of the easy WiFi transfer. Interface isn't that bad either and I can deal with no PowerPoint support for now.

I just used an encrypted document with a password with DTG and it works. If you want to open in you iphone or ipod, it is going to ask you for your password. It can also see commentaries to a word document.
For those who need to be able to see and edit attached documents. There is of course copy and paste. I downloaded the document in the email app. Then, I just copied and pasted into DTG. |

They're working on it and will add it in a future update. It's obviously more difficult to implement because they need to find a way to switch between Exchange to gmail, etc.
