CD Burner

I have an older 300mhz G3 tower running OS 9.2.2. I recently was given a combo drive from G4 silver edition. I was told to reinstall OS 9.0 and 9.2.2 and I should be able to burn Cd's. I have tried for days with no luck. My systems profiler still says Cd burning not supported. Any ideas?
