iBook G4 with DVI monitor?

it's not the right one you need... google for VGAtor from Dr. Bot, it costs 200$+, I guess, a VGA-DVI converter is really expensive and I would go for it if really need it... I have an Ibook G4 as well, without the Hack and can understand how you would need more space... I'll sell this baby after MWSF 05 and get a PB, do the same meanwhile..

Edit: I noticed that Dr. Bott also sell the DVI Extractor II which, if used with the VGAtor, could produce a DVI output from VGA - but it's yet another adaptor and more expense. Is there an all-in-one solution for this?

What you need is VGA to DVI. Do a google for it. I found some here:

They're all really cheap (probably $10 with shipping).

Ok, here's the problem. Normal DVI from the computer going out is a full DVI standard which carries both a DVI (digital) signal AND a VGA signal (some of the DVI pins are used for VGA only. This was done so you can plug old monitors into the new graphics cards. Those adapters previously posted in the thread basically take the pins from the DVI port and turn them into a VGA port.

What I'm saying from above is your still only using a VGA signal, but passed through the DVI port thus no gain. Now if you use a DVI monitor which takes in the VGA signal in on the DVI port, this adapter will basically enable analogue on your DVI monitor.

80% of all LCD's are DVI-D (digital only) and this is where your problem is going to come in. They just don't have the pins to accept the VGA signal and only take a true DVI signal in. What you need is a true conversion from VGA to DVI to take advantage of teh new screens. Adapters like this don't cost 10 bucks (cause they're not just pin connections) but more like $150. I've seen a couple around, I thought Dr. Bott had one but I guess this is just ADC.

Basically, it's just not worth the trouble it's going to take to do this. Just stick with your analog LCD. I checked back at the link I gave you, and it doesn't give you a digital signal. It merely allows DVI-A (Analog) LCDs to work with your VGA port.

why would apple switch to dvi?? ADC includes VIDEO/USB/POWER... thats why apple's DVI->ADC adaptor is needed if you want to connect an apple ADC display to your DVI port...not just for the fact that its a different kind of plug... I'm not sure If DVI allso Includes USB... but I tought It didn't include Power...

This thread has nothing to do with ADC displays and DVI ports, it's about connecting a third party DVI display to a VGA port

Also no, DVI doesn't supply a USB signal.
