convert mini dv to .mov or .m4v or .mp4

I need to convert 1 hour mini dv tapes to one hour of "computer friendly" footage, like .mov or .mp4, etc. I want high quality, but not the size of dv stream. Is there any easy program or method that will capture and convert with minimal fuss? I know there are many ways to do this, but I am looking for a few simple solutions.

My current workflow is minidv to dvd via one step dvd in idvd, then rip with handbrake....

Several of options:

1. Quicktime Pro will do many conversions
2. mpegstreamclip will do many and last I looked it was still free.
3. Final Cut Express lets you edit and output in several formats
4. Final Cut Studio ($$$) includes compressor which can do most anything ;-)

I am looking for conversion from mini dv TAPE TO .MOV OR .MP4 FILES. not, import than convert. Are there one step choices to take it from TAPE? Obviously mpeg streamclip and others covert exisiting computer files, but not TAPE.

No, I think you have to import the file as DV then change the format...at least i'm sure that it is much easier that way...

so the fastest/easiest is probably still to use one step dvd to convert to dvd (one click), then rip with handrbake to the resolution desired... (also one click)...
