I've had my MBP for 9 months and I purchased a Mini about a week ago.
Being the perfectionist I am, I couldn't stand that the short names weren't consistent.
After doing a little google search I found out that though some co-exertion you can change your comp's short name.
I did so and little did I know I was opening up a HUGE can of worms. By doing this it creates new users, you lose your preferences, files are not where you put them and worst of all it messes with all of your user permissions.
Long story short - I would vote against changing your comp's short name - if you do - just reinstall the OS.
I had to do that on both of my computers to get the "goblins" worked out.
Learn from my mistake. 😎
Cheers.
