By Nikon.

Touchscreen OLED's are on the way. Hope Apple takes this route sooner rather than later.

I would absolutely love to see an OLED screen on a iPod Touch I would even pay extra for one.

I have a touch screen camera, but it's not OLED, and I'm assuming that's a capacitive screen on the Nikon?

I would much rather have this technology in a smart-phone.

We've known they existed for awhile, the Zune HD uses one.

The 3.5" dimension is the key bit of info. Several players (Cowon S9, iriver SPINN) including the Zune HD are using 3.3" 480 x 272 OLED touchscreens already. The Sony Walkman is using a 3" OLED screen. They all look small in relationship to the iPod Touch 3.5" screen at 480 x 360 (I think) as that extra .2" make a big difference. It helps that the Touch has a different screen length/width ratio as well.

Is it true that OLED screens only have a lifespan of 5 years?

Blue OLED's have a lifespan of about 14,000 hours (5 years at 8 hours a day). They're working on this, but for relatively short-lifespan electronics (cell phones, digital cameras etc) 5 years of constant use is plenty. I know I'll probably replace my gadget by then.

8 hours of use a day is pretty absorbent. It would be hard for me to have the screen on for that long every day for 5 years. I would probably suggestion it would take longer for the average consumer to use through that lifespan... and you are right, most people will have upgraded by then anyways.
