[How to] Set your iPhone as new without erasing App Store app data and Game saves!
I've got an extra iPhone right here with bookmarks, apps and photos on it. I'm going to Reset all Settings and tell you what happens.
Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings I have selected "Reset all Settings" and Here are my findings. Enjoy! 1. It reset my home screen icon positions 2. It reset my network settings 3. Did not remove my Safari bookmarks 4. Mail settings stayed 5. iPod settings are back to default 6. Store sign-in settings reset. I am signed out. 7. Backlight is back to 50% 8. All General settings are back to default 9. Wallpaper is still intact 10. Sounds have been set to default. 11. Notes are still intact 12. Photos are still intact 13. SMS message conversations unchanged 14. Phone favorites unchanged 15. Third party app settings remain untouched (I'm still logged into Twitterrific and all my settings are the same) *** Warning: Do not hit Erase all Content and Settings *** Guess what that does ![]() Any questions, post them here and I'll test it for you. One could simply assume reset all settings is referring to all system related settings, and all the 3rd party apps fall under "content".
So your how-to is basically "one click" and telling us the result? |

Is this supposed to solve the battery issue? Has that method even been proven to help? My battery isn't that bad as it is.

I did this and it completely erased my phone. Thanks a lot TheSpaz.

So to get your iPhone to run as well as possible, restore to your usual backup, then "Reset all Settings". It's just a "I wanna help people" thread. Please tell me you didn't hit "Erase All Content and Settings" Last edited by kainjow; Aug 7, 2009 at 01:00 PM. Reason: merged posts |

One more thing: it resets Stocks, Weather and Clock, i.e., deleting custom world clocks, alarms, etc.

Seems like even when thespaz tries to help, he gets negative comments. Anyway, the guide helps by telling what are the results of resetting all settings. The premise is that this helps those to setup a phone as a new phone w/o going through all the headaches. Thanks, thespaz.
So, has anyone used this method with a 3GS and found it results in the same effects as restoring as a new phone (i. e., better battery life)? You did a "reset all settings?" Are you sure?

I actually didn't do either. I was just giving TS a hard time.

![]() Love the sig, BTW. I think we all miss iphonetoday and his wonderful posts. ![]() Hmmm...I wonder what TheSpaz saw with his tests. Anyway, that's not good. Have you tried to do a restore as new? I know it'll be a pain, but if you still might have the same battery life after. If you have better battery life, then maybe TS's method isn't going to work. |

I do know this though. After upgrading to 3.1 from 2.2.1, my iPhone was going WICKED slow. Everything was stuttering and apps took forever to launch. It seemed like there was a major process constantly going in the background.
When I did the "Reset all Settings" my iPhone became MUCH MUCH faster. I didn't have a problem with battery life (that I know of) because I only dealt with the sluggishness for a couple of minutes. |

Like I said. When I upgraded to 3.1, it was VERY sluggish, so I Reset all Settings and it became fast again. I'm guessing that if I would have left it like that, the battery would have been terrible. It seemed like something was maxing out the CPU power and slowing everything down. |

I have performed the 'Restore All Settings' and it worked fine for me.
Thanks for the tip!
