Engadget reports that Apple is again offering an antiglare matte display option on the 15" MacBook Pro. As with the matte display for the 17" MacBook Pro, the option costs $50.

A report last month claimed that Apple was considering bringing back the antiglare matte option on additional Macs beyond the 17" MacBook Pro in the wake of criticism from users regarding color matching issues and distracting glare under bright conditions with Apple's standard glossy displays. Apple reportedly had been following various petitions and discussions regarding the complaints and was planning to address the issue in future product revisions. It remains to be seen whether the antiglare matte option will be extended to other models such as the 13" MacBook Pro and the iMac line in the future.

Good move. I hope the option becomes more available overall. I loved the matte screen on my imac G5.

I hope they accept returns without a restock fee for those who would prefer to have matte. I don't know why they do this mid-stream really.

Unfortunately I don't see this happening. :(

Should be interesting to see if they expand this into the 13", iMac, and Cinema Displays.

I personally prefer the Glassy screens, but I do most of my work indoors and without direct light hitting the displays; however, if I didn't I would defiantly need a Matte screen.

You have to hand it to Apple, the cheeky bastards. They take the choice away from their customer, then they bring it back but at a substantial fee… and people are actually grateful!

Good for Apple.

I was a bit concerned about my first glossy unibody MBP last fall (b/c I've been matte) and well I'm used to glossy thing and I liked it. Well, I'm open to both though. Should be interesting what it looks like on 15" MBP @ the apple store.

Ha, that's a good one. No, that will not happen, nor should it.

This is just money-grabbing from Apple. My Macbook Pro came with a matte screen, and it was free. Kudos to Apple for bringing back what they had, but why in the world do they have to be so greedy about it?
