Gizmodo has received a supposed screenshot from Rogers Wireless' internal sales systems for hardware upgrades listing an 8 GB iPhone 3GS model. Based on the screenshot and comments from the alleged Rogers employee who submitted it, the 8 GB iPhone 3GS will be offered at the same $99 price point of the current iPhone 3G under the standard three-year contract with data plan offered by Rogers or at $299 without a data plan. According to the source:
It clearly shows that an 8GB 3GS has been added to our stock list and is the same price as the 3G coming in at 99$...

The first listing is showing 74.00$ (promo price with data plan and minus customers 25$ discount)

The second listing shows the phone if the customer does not choose a data plan, which is normall 299$ minus said $25 discount, so 274$

I think that when 3G stock runs out they are going to build 99$ 3GSs since those are the parts they are ordering, might as well keep the parts list minimal...
The news follows an initial report of alleged screenshots from Rogers' sales system last week, and the appearance of an iPhone comparison chart listing the model on Rogers' public website. Rogers, however, claimed that the public listing was an error and that there was no such model.

This should give Apple the opportunity to put more 3GS units into more hands.

Very good!

I have posted 99 dollar pricing information in the other thread last week
I couldn't take a screenshot as I never had a chance alone and would be fired if caught. ;)

please, let it be...

Does this mean foreign visitors can visit the store, and buy a contract-free 3GS for $274? Or is there some caveat I'm looking over :p

Well you'll have to wait at least 30 days, also you have to pay for the first month of service, also depending upon if you're lucky or not you'll get pinned for the 2nd month of charges as well since you can't cancel until you're into the 2nd billing cycle.

Best case scenario:

$100 + $80 (service) + $174 (ETF) = $354 tax not included

Worst case:

$100 + $160 (service) + $174 (ETF) = $433 tax not included

...either way not cheap, and you must wait 30 days as well as deal with AT&T customer service.

Ok, thanks. Also, it literally says "no data-plan", but I suppose you'll still be tied in some other contract with AT&T? Like, calls & texts for $xx a month, but data not included.

Should have known this would be too good to be true ;)

People People People

I am a Canadian resident with Rogers iPhone 3g. Let me tell you Rogers is well known for getting things WRONG. I suspect this is the iPhone 3g 8gb version and some one labeled it in there system as the iPhone 3gs.

So all though it is fun to think you might have some information Apple did not announce when they announce the $99 iphone. to use Rogers as a source for even a rumor is WAY off.

Also I know from asking Rogers the cheapest 3GS they would sell me with no Contract is $849.00. So $274.00 for a 3GS would be a good indication this is wrong.

this may be a stupid question...but what is the advantage of an 8GB iPhone 3GS???

I don't understand why they think that offering an even cheaper version will make a difference. I waited for 2 years before I finally got an iPhone. It had nothing to do with the price of the iPhone, it had to do with the cellular plan.

You only pay for the iPhone once, but you have to pay for the plan for 2 years. If they lowered the data plan by even just $5 a month, that could save you $120 over the course of a 2 year plan... which is more than the $100 you would save getting the cheaper phone.

You'll be suprised at how many people don't see a difference between 3g and 3gs

There's a very noticeable difference in Safari. When loading pages with a 3GS, you can move around the page seamlessly. With the 3G, if you try to move around the page while it is loading, it is very slow.

I think Apple wants to bring and end to the 3G as soon as possible and move it's entire product line to the 3GS hardware.

Your 'rational' approach to your purchase is by no means typical of consumer behaviour. Lowering the iPhone's initial price point has shown time and time again to sucker more and more consumers into the joys of iPhone ownership. We're "predictably irrational" when it comes to subsidized cell phones.

In the end, even you gave in if you signed a contract. Buying a 2nd hand unlocked iPhone 3G with no contract gives you far more flexibility in finding a great plan, preferably month-to-month .... most consumers decide that it's not worth the battle and simply sign up for 2 (3 three years here in Canuckistan) of servitude.

Hmmm, two "typos" in two days from Rogers?

Hopefully this update happens very soon, because I have the 23rd of September rubber stamped, iron clad, and ready to go for my PAYG 8GB iPhone purchase.

Fingers crossed, should the update from 3G to 3GS happen to the 8GB model, then the price will remain the same in the UK, at £342.50 on PAYG. With the 16GB costing £440, I don't see Apple increasing the price of the 8GB should it become a 3GS.

If it helps any, there's an entire thread at a TV industry forum about Rogers' website. It'd be rather comical, if it weren't so sad that Rogers is an *ISP*, yet has such a poor website.

Rogers website complaints:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=109694

I tried searching for Detroit Public TV (WTVS) -- as they were considering dropping a bordering PBS stations for this feed-- and netted a results of 700 that put BlackBerry devices at the top of the list of most relevant. They aren't known for the most accuracy.

But stranger things have happened.

it's 3gs!

Price of course!
Fastest iPhone ever yet! It's 3GS!

Capacity wise if you survived the 1st gen you can survive with this. Just put your most favorite music and 1 movie at a time when your done re-sync another movie and remove the other, and some short films. At least you got an iPhone 3GS just take an occasional video and upload it to your computer as soon as you get home. You'll learn to live with it...

Two days old.

I agree, I bet this is a typo. I also agree that the full retail pricing of $274 seems really low, even for a 8GB iPhone.

Probably just a typo. You'll be suprised at how many people don't see a difference between 3g and 3gs

It's most likely the 3g 8gb, but whoever copied the info copied it 3gs instead.

For example, typo of street address of new Apple Store, still not corrected yet.

I'm pretty sure that Consultant was talking about the spelling of 3g vs. 3gs, not the actual performance differences between the two.

Ah. I get you now. So, he is basically suggesting that Rogers hired a temp worker secretary to type up a sign and he/she knows nothing about the iPhone and simply typed "3Gs" instead of "3G" but had the caps lock on and simply didn't realize the difference (a possible scenario, not his exact suggestion). I understand now.

I'm glad that you understand, but your scenario is a tad ridiculous (and I'm guessing tongue-in-cheek).

It is very possible that this screenshot from Rogers Wireless' internal sales systems for hardware upgrades has a typo on it. This isn't a screenshot from Rogers' public Products webpage.

i would appreciate it if rogers lowered there prices for this iphone. i really want to leave the ipod world but i cant since its too expensive
