When the ibook mirrors to an external display (VGA), can the computer be closed like a powerbook can? I think that looks awesome.

Thanks.

Just to clarify, the iBook is not designed to dissapate heat correctly when closed. If you run anything that gets your iBook hot (judging based on my iBook, thats pretty much everything) it'll bake itself if it can't get rid of the heat.

The hack does not void your warranty. It can be disabled at any time, leaving no trace of its existance.

To answer your question, though: Yes, it then can be run in "Clamshell" mode, which is with the lid closed, and external display on. However, as posted before, this really isnt recommended as you could damage your computer's components due to overheating.

That's an absolute crock!

The iBook doesn't dissipate heat through the keyboard, like so many believe. The heat is directed out through the hinge vent via a heat pipe. You can just feel the CPU and Graphics heat through the keyboard.

The iBook will be perfectly fine running in clamshell mode with the Open-Firmware mod, which won't void your warranty as has already been said.

yes you can do it. people will tell you all day there is some hack or it will destroy your ibook of whatever. apple designed their laptops with this feature in mind, thats why it exists. jsut turn on the computer. plug in an external mouse or keyboard along with the external display. shut the lid and wake it up using the external mouse/keyboard and your set. ive been doing it since my old pismo and its a valid feature. enjoy.
