Mac Mini Purchaser Receives Snow Leopard Restore Disc? Up-to-Date Orders "Prepared for Shipment"?

The Japanese version of Engadget reports [Google translation] that a Mac mini purchaser appears to have received a Mac OS X Snow Leopard restore disc along with the computer. The source has provided a photo of the DVD, as well as several screenshots showing the Snow Leopard installer.

Meanwhile, several readers report that the status of their OS X Snow Leopard Up-to-Date pre-orders have changed to "Prepared for Shipment" and continue to indicate a shipping date of "By August 28th", adding yet another indication that the launch of Apple's new operating system is quickly approaching despite the lack of an official announcement from the company so far.

This pretty much screams that we're getting SL on the 28th.

What's the big fuss with this snow leopard release on this website. It really isn't anything for anyone to get excited about.

I recall reading that the Snow Leopard ship date on the UK site had changed to "September", but hopefully it will fall back into that prime spot for next Friday

I agree.

Apple needs to set a date and stop this speculation.

This seems to point, like everything else to a release on Friday 28th. I just wish Apple (typical Apple) weren't so darned secretive about it. It looks pretty obvious that the UK store jumped the gun and then were followed by the other international stores before Apple HQ pulled the plug and put the "black cloak" back over everything.

I would guess an announcement on Monday.

I'm sort of surprised. Apple generally ships drop-in discs with their Macs for a few weeks after a new operating system is released. The Apple Software Restore DVD is usually the last to get upgraded.

I think this pretty much means nothing but...

Snow Leopard on August 28th!

Does anyone know if there's going to be a launch event?

If Apple were my friend, I doubt the friendship would last very long due to my friend's secretive nature.

Just looked at my preorder for the up to date program here in the US and it still says ship date of Sep even though it did say August 28th on Thursday. I don't understand why Apple just doesn't announce it? This makes no sense!

Well done Apple, for releasing a broken OS. If it's the last build us devs got our hands on then it's broken.

iTunes and Quicktime STILL Crash like buggery.
and there are some other bugs here and there.

No way is it final. This, in my opinion, is a rushed release. bad on Apple.

Prove they just don't give a **** like they use too.
The Magic of Apple has gone!!

Friday w/no announcement yet?

How in the world could they release it on Friday if they haven't made an announcement yet? Does even this seem plausible? Would a company like Apple only give 4 full days notice of a major product release?

I can't see this happening. I think it has to come sometime in September. I would think they would want 2 weeks for pre-orders to be made. But here's hoping I am wrong!

I really doubt Apple would release an OS that is buggy and doesn't work. They're people, guys... they know that they're doing.

So what's the story with Apple not officially announcing the release on their website? They seem to continue selling Leopard 10.5.6 knowing that people will cry that they just purchased it.

If Steve Jobs sneezed in public, there would be a 1000-post thread on MacRumors!
