How to make iCal icon NOT display date?

I've redone my desktop and icons to be really simple and I was wondering if there is a way to keep the date from being displayed over the top of the iCal icon? It doesn't look right with my theme...

Here is what I'm talking about:

Have you tried any end-round kind of solution, like making an alias to iCal and putting that in the dock instead of dragging iCal to the dock? Or does that result in there being two iCal icons while its running?
