Ping a network usb harddrive

is it possible to do this with terminal ping command? DOes the usb drive even have its own IP?
Mine is connected to my aebs and i would love to just f@ck!ng ping it out the window at the moment...
help appreciated.
 
Nothing connected by USB has its own IP address - they are accessd through the IP address of the device that's connected to the network (ethernet or wireless).
ie, you can't ping the USB drive.
