Difference between 720p and 1080p in Sanyo Xacti?

I need a small handheld camcorder for a trip I am going on soon. I am looking at the sanyo xacti. My question is what is will I really be able to tell a difference between the 720p and 1080p models? Any advice?

1080p will have more detail and will be sharper due to greater amount of pixels but the file size is also bigger.

their is quite a large difference between 1080p and 720p.

As you could see in this illustration, 1080p is a much bigger and could fit more pixels into. Therefore it results in a much better image. Most camcorders have the capabilities of shooting in full 1080p HD.

It depends on the equality of the camera (lens, sensor, compression, etc.,) and the size and quality of the device you'll be watching the footage on.

What are the dimensions of the imaging element in the camcorder? Whether 1080p or 720p is better will be determine by which has the best match to the dimensions of the imaging element.

i just got a xacti fh1 and my old intel imac cant handle the 1080p 60fps but my mbp does.
720p is best bet if im doing editing on imac.
my mbp took the 1080p in stride in imove
