Disappointing Keynote Event

Well, I should have known better. Assumptions and high expectations are the mother of all disappointments. . .

1) The release of iTunes 9 with pretty much all the leaked features there, so no surprises there.

2) Some strangely light in content 3.1 firmware update. The showed the genius and ring tones. Everything else is behind the scene support for all the new functionality in iTunes 9.

3) A new 5G iPod nano with a camera, bigger screen, FM radio, etc., as expected.

4) A new 64 GB iPod touch with the leaked prices points (8GB - $199, 32GB - $299, 64GB - $399). The 16GB disappeared.

There was a reference about the iPod touch having "the power to play games" with support for OpenGL/ES 2.0. But I don't recall anything about any reference to the hardware: same as iPhone 3Gs? better?

5) A classic with 160GB.

That's it!

I suspect, and that's just my guess, that they did have some production issues with the iPod touch and they downplayed any of its updates and concentrated only on the iPod nano.

I am not a nano user and never will be. I was hoping for some real advancements to the iPod classic or touch lines. There is nothing exciting enough to make me upgrade at the moment.

I guess I will have to wait until March 2010 when the next announcement will probably be made.

Well, the only good thing is that I will not spend any $$$ on an iPod any time soon.

To be fair...

There were several nice announcements, but I was not the target audience.

Considering how the hype was about this event being groundbreaking, I found myself lacking the wow factor.

Anyway, I am sure there will be a lot of happy iPod nano users around.

Although, I will never buy it, the Zune HD looks appealing in paper compared to the current iPod touch offerings.

I will just wait for the next real update to the iPod touch.
