Apple Releases QuickTime 7.6.4



Apple today released QuickTime 7.6.4 for Mac OS X Leopard and Tiger via Software Update and the QuickTime download page. A Windows version for XP and Vista is also available.

QuickTime 7.6.4 includes changes that increase reliability, improve compatibility and enhance security. This release is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users.

The update addresses four security vulnerabilities across all platforms that could permit maliciously-crafted H.264, MPEG-4, or FlashPix files to execute unauthorized code.

No love for Snow Leopard and QT 7's new home in the Utilities folder.

Yah no go on the update for Snow Leopard Even tried updating in Quicktime 7. Kinda lame.

You can still use QT 7 in SL. It is part of the optional install in the SL disc

Downloaded and installed fine on Leopard.

We know that. We are referring to the fact that the update is not available for Snow Leopard.

Looks as if for the present time those of us on snow leopard will miss out on the QT 7 Pro (7.6.4) update until apple pulls the finger out.

As part of iTunes 9.0 requires QT 7.6.4 to work

I have posted at apple discussions asking why isn't there a version for SL users of QT 7 Pro 7.6.4

So far not much has been said

It looks so far as we are being left out in the cold with this update.

What is the QuickTime 7 version that ships with Snow Leopard?

If iTunes 9 requires today's version of QuickTime 7, then I think you'll see a "correction" of some sort tonight for our SL using friends.

Quicktime 7 Pro on snow leopard is version 7.6.3

It may or may not contain the same fixes only time will tell.

Got 7.6.4 working on Snow Leopard

I'm currently on SL 10.6.1 and tried to download and install QT 7.6.4 (for Leopard) from this link: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/.

I had also been a QT Pro user under Leopard so that "QuickTime Player 7" (7.6.2) still remains on my SL install but under Utilities rather than Applications. I was greeted with a warning: "QuickTime can't be installed on this disk. This version of QuickTime 7 can't be installed on this disk because QuickTime X is already present. Please use Software Update to install the appropriate version of QuickTime for your Mac."

Also interesting, I tried to install QT 7.6.4 on a volume containing a clone of my Leopard install and was greeted with: "QuickTime can't be installed on this disk. QuickTime can only be installed on the currently booted volume. To install QuickTime on a different volume, change your Startup Disk to that volume and restart."

So, I was able to successfully install 7.6.4 on my Leopard volume. I moved the 7.6.2 version out of the SL Applications/Utilities folder elsewhere. I copied the 7.6.4 Leopard version to my SL/App/Utilities folder and renamed it from "QuickTime Player" to "QuickTime Player 7" to follow the convention that Apple used.

Note that OS X names the current version of QT in your App folder as "QuickTime Player" whether that's 7.6.4 in Leopard or QTX in SL.

With 7.6.4 now in my Utilities folder it launches and functions exactly as it did on my Leopard install. So, eureka!

The player app isnt the important part of QuickTime, you want the frameworks.
