Smart playlists broken on ipods in Itunes 9

On my setup on Windows it loads the playlists fine, the newest first in Itunes 9 itself but dis-ordered on my ipods. On the Ipod touch v1 with 3.1.1 Firmware I can't fathom how it's sorted, it's totally scrambled the order but on the Ipod Classic V1 160Gb it appears to be sorted via artist. Even if you re-sort it by clicking the date added column the order of the playlist and resync it makes no difference to either of them. Neither does deselecting, resyncing, unplugging -replugging adding back and syncing again.

Anyone else have this issue or am I in the minority of one?

EDIT: Looking at the Apple Support Forums it seems like Smart Playlists are broken for many users on both Windows and Mac. Itunes 9.01 will be on it's way shortly!
 
It's not an iTunes problem, it's the 3.1 software problem.

This problem first started in the 2nd beta I believe, it's annoying! :mad:
 
If you turn off live updating they sync properly, but obviously it doesn't live update.
 
Definitely iTunes 9 that's breaking things.

Smart playlists are now broken on my old 30gb U2-edition iPod.

It's not a 3.1 software problem, it's an iTunes problem. I'm running software version 1.3 on my 5th gen iPod (a.k.a. "Video iPod"), and everything was working fine until I upgraded from iTunes 8.x to iTuness 9.0.

Suddenly, smart playlists of podcasts which were sorted by "Date Added" in iTunes were sorted by "Title" on my iPod. And disabling "Live Updating" doesn't fix it--if I change that, the playlist on the iPod is empty.

People are also discussing it over in the Apple forums.

You can say it's both then.

When I was running 3.1 BETA before iTunes 9.0 was released, my smart playlists broke. It broke in BETA 2
 
Re-Install older version

Well Im going to install the last version of iTunes until Apple fixes this.

90% of what I listen to during my commute are my smart podcast playlists and the new update renders these un-usable. Thank you once again Apple for dictating to me how the UX should be from your perspective and not giving the end users any control or input whatsoever regarding iTunes playlist functionality.
 
Has anyone notified apple about this?

I'm having the same issue and I'm upset because now my iPhone is playing a bunch of old songs... I even tried wiping out the iphone and restoring to no avail. Will apple listen without getting on a roll about applecare coverage? They should have a special hotline for software feedback.

Actually guys I think I figured it out. I removed all of my smart playlists and recreated them :)mad: time consuming) and they seem to be working fine now. :)
 
Just noticed I have same issue, smartlist looking for top 50 most played, with mediatype being music.
Also noticed playcount does not work.
 
iTunes 9 doesn't work with iPod Classic

does anyone else have this issue? will apple ever solve it?
 
Yep... well, it seems that my iPod Touch syncs correctly for most of the playlists. Except those smart playlists that have the condition "any" with more than one condition on the same field, like the one here:

This results in an empty list on the iPod Touch (late 2009, v3.1.3), while the same list on a 3rd gen iPod (2004) perfectly matches the original list in iTunes 9.
I tried some other combinations to reproduce the bug: adding a new smart list with just one genre condition, appears correct on the Touch. Adding another condition to the smart list (with the "any" option selected) generates the empty list again. After removing the 2nd genre condition again (without changing the "any" option), that same smart list stays empty on the Touch. That's odd. But when I changed "any" to "all" just before deleting the 2nd genre condition, then the playlist does show correct again on the Touch. That means that "any" option simply does not work properly in firmware 3.1.3 (and 3.1.2) and can even mess up a perfectly correct looking single condition search.

During all the tests my old iPod had no trouble at all with the same smart lists, even the ones that have "live update" checked.

Meanwhile I've sent a bug-report on Apple's feedback pages... hopefully that helps.
