unlocked 3g wont read sim. will on reg firmware though

iphone 3g reads sim on 3.0 firmware. i unlocked it and now it wont read any sim- atnt or tmobile. dont what to do. restored and it reads the sim again. unlocked again... still wont read either sim. need help.../????>>????
