I've been having problems with Safari and Firefox crashing regularly since installing Snow Leopard last week. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I have a feeling it might have something to do with Flash, as earlier today Flash itself was crashing in my browser without actually taking the whole app down with it.

We are also having a similar problem however it also seems to be affecting itunes and iphoto,

Firefox crashes on my as well with heavily ladened flash sites. Safari has been fine since updating to the latest version of flash and running it in 32bit mode.

I personally haven't seen any of these crahses of flash in firefox 3.5.3 as yet.

One questions for those whom use firefox

What flash related extensions if any have you added to firefox?

Also another thing which may be helping me is I also installed the latest flash player from adobe even after the 10.6.1 update just to be sure it was actually fully updated.

Also which sites seem to be and or are causing the most crashses?

Lord, have they ever.

Safari crashes all the time with me. Opening a new window, closing a window.

I get the beach ball and pray it doesn't crash. When it does I leave Apple a sarcastic, rude message in the note box that pops up after it crashes.

Thank god for "Open windows from previous session"

I seem to be crashing in safari only when I go to sites with flash. 10.6 didn't do this, 10.6.1 is when I started to notice it.

[Edit 1] Going to try 32 bit Safari to see if that is the cause.

[Edit 2] Haven't tried 32, uninstalled flash, youtube loads instead of crashing on the front page. now to reinstall.

[Edit 3] Still no go with 32 and Flash. Works fine in Firefox for me. Maybe I will just have to switch.

It isn't as extreme but I had 2 crashes that were Flash related (got a flash error). I think it has to do with the changes to flash they included with 10.6.1.

Crashes here also

Have been experiencing crashes in Safari, CS4 PS, Preview and Suitcase Fusion to date. I have reinstalled SL and repaired permissions.

Any ideas out there? This is ocurring on two macs after update to SL

Just throwing this in: I've had the same problems today and I'm still running 10.4.11. Every browser I've tried (Firefox, Safari, Opera) crashes on page load when I attempt to access Gmail or other graphics/video heavy sites (YouTube and philadelphiaweekly.com being the culprits I've seen). Facebook has been buggy, but not as severely affected as even Gmail (which will either crash on page load or on first attempt to load a message).

There is a thread on the Apple forums talking about the same topic, here:

I uninstalled Flash so I could access my Gmail long enough to complete registration here, and I had no problems accessing it. I've already uninstalled/repaired permissions/reinstalled/repaired permissions once tonight, and it was not repaired.

This time I've left Flash uninstalled and I haven't had any trouble yet. I'm leaving it uninstalled for now, at least until I find something else to try.

try this... go into user/library/preferences and delete the java.plist file. Its not exactly named that but it begins with the word java. My safari and firefox havnt been crashing ever since i deleted it. try it out.

Deleting the java plist helped with some crashes but Gmail is still crashing for me. I'm going to try the developer version and update with my result. I also repaired perms yesterday with no help.

Update: Yes! Flash Player v10r22_87 seems to be stable. Thanks to everyone for posting here!

I'm running 10.6.1 with updated Flash. Both Safari and Firefox crash pretty often, especially when I try uploading to a site like imageshack (flash based upload). It's really irritating.

ive had crashes in safari & and been running flash videos for 2 days fairly nonstop

Yeah, same here. Safari has never been THAT stable. Especially if using it aggressively at all. I don't think Safari has ever stayed up longer than something like 4 or 5 days. I dunno there mighta been a version that could. <shrug> Like maybe back in 10.4 or something I can no longer remember.

It's a nice browser I dig it. It crashes less than IE and I like it better than FF, IE, or FO. Well FO might be a toss-up.

I installed 10.6.1 with Version 4.0.3 (6531.9) of Safari and it's crashed a few times this week already but probably nothing to do with Flash. It is however, the slowest version of any browser I've ever used. Once loaded, pages are fast but even for sites like this one pages seem to pre-load slooooowly or something. About a full 5 or 6 second delay with every click. It kinda feels like browsing back on the Amiga 2000 or something. :( I expect 4.0.4 or 4.0.5 will solve it. <shrug>

REPAIR PERMISSIONS

1. The first thing I tried was reinstalling Flash - no luck

2. Searched google and found this thread
-Repaired permissions - tons of repairs started popping up about Flash

Everything works now (Before repairing permissions, Safari would crash EVERY time I was looking at a chart on Google Finance) - No problems now.

prob in all snow leopard and older leopard if updated at adobe siteadobe flash

THIS IS A FLASH ISSUE pure and simple... was NO problem at all for me until i Updated my Adobe flash at their site at their request! I used 10.5.8 but after researching this HORRID issue i find that it is unfortunately the same version of FLASH already included in all SNOW LEOPARDS... for you sbow folks having same trouble!!!

ADOBE should be sued for ignoring this so long and not even addressing it.

I have spent hours trying to fix, re-install, search, work-around this issue, I AM FURIOUS!

I have found this issue to be rampant and especially hurtful to those of us who play on gaming or skill game sites that require flash./.. it has to do with the ADOBE FLASH update breaking our flash in all browsers (started esp with Firefox) and then the frames can't redraw... uninstalling doesn't work... neither does reinstalling old flash... Adobe is hiding from this.. i have lost thousands of dollars on my gaming sites from not being able to progress after 3-4 frames on a gaming site... HERE ARE COMMON THINGS I HAVE DISCOVERED:

-after 3-4 flash activated windows are opened it breaks
-frames come up blank, chronicly spinning or say "undefined "
-if any other browsers are open with active flash pages , EVEN MINIMIZED, it is especially bad!

-often only quitting then restarting all browsers works
-if on a site where p2p chats are options then the chats come up as undefined and then continue to try to re-open... is maddening
-if on a site like facebook and trying to watch a video it often just spins and spins

10.6.1 - safari v4.0.3 - flash 10.0 r32

... seems to happen when I resize the safari window.

anyone else?

Adobe Flash 10.1 beta available

After finding this thread as result of a search, I also found a link to an Adobe development site that you might want to visit. They've posted Flash 10.1 for download as a beta.

I downloaded and installed and can report that so far all crashing in both Firefox and Safari has ceased. Both apps sem to run a bit faster as well.

Here is the link to the site:

I am still seeing flash crashing when using facebook apps which are flash based and even under the latest stable version of flash some apps still crash but a lot less frequent to version 10.1

This maybe a compatibility issues with the version of flash the apps are developed under.

For now I am staying with the stable version as it is less problems for me at least.

I have fully uninstalled 10.1 and put the 10.0.32r18 back again and repaired the permissions.

I don't use youtube very much and the times I have haven't seen any flash based crashed the times I did use it.

I am wondering if there maybe something that could be causing the crashes a lot of people are seeing. One things to check for is another app or such causing some of the issues with flash player.
