duplicate filenames in iPhoto...how to change names

I have 2 digicams (Canon XTi and SD880). At a recent wedding their numbering systems converged so that I have numerous photos from the wedding with the SAME filename. I didn't realize it at the time and imported all of them into iPhoto. Now I can see all the photos from the SD but none of the photos from the XTi :( (although all the thumbnails are visible - side by side, when sorted by filename).

I still have all the files on the CF and SD camera cards so now I need to know how to fix this....or prevent in the future:confused:

is there a simple way to rename photos before or during import using iPhoto?
