Safari Freezing regularly Since Snow Leopard Update

As the thread title states, ever since I updated to snow leopard, both safari and firefox freeze up when I access the ESPN home page and occasionally a few other sites that I have never experienced problems with before on leopard.

However, if i turn off the enable plug-ins button in the safari preferences pane, most of the sites work just fine. I thought it may be flash related but i have since updated the programs it it continues to freeze up on the ESPN page.

any ideas as to why this keeps happening to me.

side note, this happens on both my work and home computers (very different specs between the two).
 
I had the same problem with upgrading to SL. I then did a clean install and my mac was a little bundle of pure joy again.
 
My problem is worse. Safari is causing Kernel panics on my system, despite a clean install of SL. I've had two in as many days, both times when I was using the Top Sites function.
 
i thought about doing a clean install but i'd rather not if i don't have to. Anybody find a solution to this problem?
 
Many many beach balls and my entire system is sluggish after the upgrade.

If I do a Clean Install can I restore everything from a TM backup? I'm on the road so I don't have activation codes etc.

How do I do a clean install from the discs they sent me?

I have had the same problem...especially with the ESPN website. However, I have been having the same problem with my windows computer at work at ESPN. I think that website may be especially tough on the browser.
 
I've had the same issues (and so have many friends), but on other sites, hopefully it's just a glitch in the system that with be rectified in the next update of SL.
 
Same issues, scrolling performance poor and multiple crashes.

Solution (for me) was:

Select Safari in Finder > Get info > Change from 64 bit to 32 bit

Problems disappeared.
 
I suggest people try doing a clean install of SL and see if that fixes your problems.
I got my mac only about 5 days ago and I booted it up into Leopard and upgraded to SL first thing before I did anything else with the machine and I got so many crashes and errors and I was beginning to regret my macbook purchase.
Then I reformatted the machine and installed SL and everything has been smooth sailing since.

If you have a backup of your system, either with TM, or a clone, then just pop in a system disk, SL or whatever you'll be using, restart the machine, hold down C on the keyboard until the grey Apple icon pops up, access the Utilities menu, Disk Utility, then erase your main drive, quit DU.

After you go through the installation, one of the first things the system will ask when you boot up is if you want to restore your data from another computer, another volume, or a Time Machine backup. Select your option and it will ask exactly what data you want restaored.

However, the absolute best way to get a clean system without any possible corruption from a previous system, is to go all out: clean install of the OS, and clean install of every application, and manual copying of all your personal data. However, not many people want to go through the time of that, but if they did, they would have far less problems with their OS. Think about it like this, the more time and effort you put into anything, the more rewarding it will be in the end. That's what makes a delicious sandwich, and what also makes a nice OS.

This is THE only thing that worked for me. No problems at all after changing the setting.

Endless Safari Crashes on Snow Leopard

Its so unbearable. I've been experiencing frequent Safari freezes (endless beachball spinning) ever since Snow Leopard upgrade. Its just not Safari. I have tried with Firefox, Camino, Flock and all of it freeze if I try to run a flash file or do some kind of secure authentication on the website. Mine is a 2006 MBP... Wondering if this is an isolated issue on certain chipsets or config. Intend taking it over to the Genius Bar this weekend to see whats going on.

Yes, this worked for me. And it's hilarious. The whole point of 64bit programing was to increase speed, not slow things down. I think Apple has some bugs to fix.
