PowerBook lemon--anyone had this problem?

This guy's story is featured today on BoingBoing:
Quote:
Matt Webb bought a 12" Powerbook and got a lemon. He's spent over a month calling Apple, trying to get it fixed, getting ignored, getting promises broken, not having his calls returned, getting the machine returned still broken, sending it back again. This is outrageous: Apple UK needs to do a better job if it plans on retaining customers.
He's been struggling to get a working Powerbook since last May and still hasn't been satisfied. His problems do seem rather extreme... any other UK users facing these problems?

That's a pretty bad story. Apple customer service seems to be either absolutely fantastic or absolutely disgraceful. I wonder what else this guy can do? Maybe legal action of some type (or the threat of this, at least) will be the only way to get Apple UK to deal with the problem satisfactorily.

It would be interesting to know what the delivery guy said about the number of Apple products he has to courier back and forth for repairs.

I bought a refurb 17" PowerBook Alu in March. First it had a defective battery (it would go to sleep when it reached 20% remaining on the battery). They replaced that. Next it would have problems charging. I had to send in the unit to be fixed (logic board). D/T 2 problems in the first few weeks of owning this Apple mailed me a 512MB RAM stick for free (to double my RAM). I called once a week to find out the status of my repair. Apple was having problems getting the parts to replace the logic board so after 4 weeks they connected me with customer relations and the lady stated they were not sure when the parts would arrive. So they mailed me a NEW 17" 1.33GHz PowerBook Alu to replace the refurb 17" 1GHz. It was kind of a hassle....I didn't have my PB for a month and had to make around 10 phone calls and several hours on the phone....but in the end I received a new upgraded PB and 512MB of RAM. All of the people I spoke with were kind and gave me as much info as possible.
