any macrumors members from the south bay area (ca)?

the wisconsin thread took off so i thought it would be cool to see who here is from the south bay area (south of san francisco, north of santa barbara county or so)?

besides mischief and vniow in the santa cruz area and true777 in palo alto who are long time members, i know of nobody else...but mactastic used to live in the area but i know he's a little way down south in san luis obispo.

I'm from Orinda, just through the Caldecott tunnel from Oakland, so not exactly what you were thinking, but close enough...

i wasn't sure though i checked out your totally cool website and knew you were from fremont, a south? east? kind of bay area city

kgo newstalk 810 calls fremont south bay when referring to traffic from their "south bay bureau"

I'm here now.

Live in South SJ on the hill with the repeater tower right next to 87, and work at Hitachi GST off 85 @ Cottle.

In fact, I happened to run into vniow at Fry's in Campbell the other day.

Asking this question to me is like asking if there are any surfers living in Hawaii. I am pretty sure there are a few Mac users living in the area around Cupertino, call me crazy. The chances are that there are a lot of MR members from that area.

Still in Walnut Creek (though lately in Europe and soon to be Cleveland), just down East 24 from Orinda.

He's been hanging out in the Political forums as of late for the most part. He and his wife just had a baby not too long ago so I suppose he's been quite busy...

wow, that's great news

last i heard from him, he was teaching a class at "the spot" techie school...my wife recently finished a quickbooks pro class there at the spot's marina, ca location near cal state university, monterey bay

i was just up there on pacific avenue a couple of weeks ago...first time in a long time and one thing i noticed is that they have refurbished more stuff...the beach flats looks a little cleaner, but still not clean

i used to go to santa cruz every week and hung out at cafe pergolesi, the bagelry, union grove music, streetlight records, more music, saturn cafe, kiva house, the art league open mike, callahan's, steve's music world, logo's, borders, bookshop (store?) santa cruz, and ucsc

the drive along hwy 1 from marina to watsonville, being one lane on each side, makes the trip a major pain...crowded and dangerous...somebody pulled into our lane head on after there was yet another fender bender on that strip

if i lived in watsonville then i would hang out in santa cruz way more often...one of my first techie jobs (clients) was west marine and i had considered moving to the santa cruz area because of that

Yeah, I know. Ick ick ick. I almost never go to the beach here. Seems that the farther south you go like in Capitola and Rio Del Mar its not so bad but I would never set foot anywhere by the Boardwalk or anywhere around there, uuugh...

BTW, Saturn Cafe = awesome.

capitola to the south is great...i like the venice, italy vibe there

the beaches north of santa cruz, from 4 mile beach to bonny doon are ok

the problem with the boardwalk, barefoot, is that you can step on a heroin syringe, since that whole area is the main place to cop heroin, in your neck of the woods...i used to volunteer and hand out info and bleach for the iv drug users there...some handed out clean needles and now, finally, it's 100 percent legal and subsidized by all govts in the loop

...but what surprised me about the beach flats was the attempt to renovate

off topic, but you are a usc student, right?

i have friends here in northern cal and they had a plan if there son got accepted to cal and stanford...while the educations are about equal and very good, stanford has those lifetime connections

but as it turned out, the kid got accepted to ucla (public college like cal) and your USC (elite private college) and they chose ucla...they have no clue that USC is full of connections like stanford

...and their son is a 1500+ sat score, straight A, golf jock, too

i hope i can convince them since the kid got a full ride to USC but still chose UCLA...but he's from a sheltered, very safe neighborhood in monterey county and i think USC scared him while UCLA looked a lot like monterey county...you know, very little crime or hint of crime

but USC will have lifelong connections while UCLA will most likely forget you the day you graduate...being a minority and having had previous generations excluded from private colleges for financial and racial reasons, we were pretty much relegated to the uc system and often saw the private college people get all the connections...all life long, too!

it was then, people of color like me, saw that many of the rich/educated/or even not educated white kids used college as a networking opportunity and as i understand (having gone to a private university for my last year of college) that "networking" is very alive though many liberals see it as politically incorrect

i also went to state funded schools (jc and cal state systems) and i saw how networking was looked down upon in favor of a more socialistic social programs type of approach...what knee jerk republicans would call a part of the tax and spend democrats

i suppose different people have different ways of seeking employment after college, but it certainly seems more practical to go to schools with kids whose families are entrepreneurs vs kids who grew up on food stamps and learn to rely only on government sponsored ways of communicating in the job market
