Itunes 9 has some great new features and views but its performance has been absolutely terrible. I'm currently running the 10.5.8 OS with the newest 15" MBP, 2.8 GHz, 4 gigs of ram and a 128 gb SSD. I have all of my music located on a 500 gb Western Digital Passport Studio and am using the FW800 connection.

Itunes seems to freeze and lock up either when fast forwarding a song or after rating a song and the smart playlists I have set up are being updated. Force quitting the application allows me to quit the GUI but the application is still shown as running in finder and in the dock.

Is anyone having similar issues with Itunes 9 freezing up, causing a hard restart by holding down the power button to remedy the problem? Any advice, suggestions, or advice on how to REALLY/ACTUALLY force quit an application so it's no longer running without having to do a hard restart?
