can an app create calendar entries? send sms/text?

is it possible for an iphone-application to create entries in the standard iphone calendar?

is it possible to send sms/text-messages?

thx for your help!

You can launch the Messages app using the sms:<number> URL scheme, but you can't set the content of the message or send it automatically.
