I heard this is possible, however will it be possible with a windows laptop ( dell e6400) It's a work laptop and wasn't sure If I could do this with some sort of adapter.
What sort of outputs does it have. The iMac requires DisplayPort (both in terms of plugs and signalling). If you have an HDMI/DVI output you can get an active converter for about $150-$180.

Ok thanks! Just to confirm, I have a Minidisplay port to DVI adapter from using my macbook pro with a samsung monitor, Will I just be able to use that the other way round then?

No. As I said above it has to be Display Port signalling/protocol: you must connect to a DisplayPort output, not DVI, not HDMI, not VGA. Anything other than DisplayPort will require an expensive, active converter.

Wow, you really like to be spoon fed eh? Anyways this is a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable. Take a good look before ordering and be sure the DisplayPort (the bigger end) will fit in your port.
