So the actual server is hosted on the iPhone? Going to username.inemobileweb.net will resolve to my iPhones address? Is this allowed by AT&T? Also, what are speeds like, especially over 3G/Edge?

I'd be interested in people who actually use this- what's the practical application of this? I mean as soon as you turn your phone off, then the site goes down. I suppose it good be used to quickly put something on the web if you aren't near a computer but im pretty sure theres an ftp client for the phone.

I'm not trying to criticize you here, just curious as to how this all works.

Actually, as soon as you close the app, the site would go down.
I suspect its not hosted on the iPhone at all... can't see Apple allowing that somehow.

Yes the server is hosted on your iPhone. as soon as you finish the setting and start the server, your server on iPhone will be on the net, username.finemobileweb.net will goes directly to your iPhone.
Why does AT&t wanna ban it?
about speed, we recommend you to test it by yourself, then you will feel what it likes. but we can tell you in advance that we tested the speed in China via WCDMA(3G), it was perfect.

Also, since you're using a mobile web environment, I doubt that any iPhone gets a unique IP address (e.g. think NAT).. even if they do, then your IP would change all the time due to connections being dropped/created from your iPhone to the tower and your iPhone switching towers.

Lots of ppl use web servers in their apps. BillMinder has one for restoring a backup, for example. /shrug. I know the purpose of this is a bit more open but I don't see the big deal. There's no way one could host anything long term/useful from their phone right now due to other limitations (1 app at a time, edge/3g connections, latency, etc.) so I don't see why AT&T would care at all. Just MHO.

about the IP problem, don't worry about it.all you ought to do is remember the URL. the gateway server will take care of it.
