The iPhone should have had a combined inbox for a long time now!

Done that many times. No response at all, like posting to /dev/null or to a black hole. And many of my suggestions will probably need agreement by AT&T despite the non-existing agreement between Apple and AT&T.

Good article, but one of Dilger's main points (that the Android is only supported by no-name Chinese manufacturers) has already been debunked with Motorola and the others lining up.

I honestly think Android and Google will go further than the article claims it will, but will fall totally short of the dominance we're all hoping for and scared of. Apple has hit several bona-fide successes in the past 10 years, with its hardware releases, iPod, iPhone, and more, but it's barely cracked 10% of the market. I can't see how Google will do any better.

That article is really just plan stupid. There are plenty of good criticisms of Android, but the article is just plain wrong in spots. For example, it's a stretch to call Android "free", providers need to license Google's map and market apps or provide an alternative. Or blanket stating that "Google is an adware vendor" is a very naive view of their business at best. The article reads like an ad for Symbian.

And no, I am not a fan of Google's "all your data are belong to us" approach.

It will take time, but I see Android taking an open source life of its own in the future, and that is not something that can easily be said of the alternatives at the moment.

same thing with Chrome, people don't realize that anything from Google is essentially spyware so they can track everything you do online and share it with their "partners".

Well, for me, the droid is the only one I can choose, as Verizon is the only one with the coverage for my area.

If Apple wants to become number one, all it has to do is get on Verizon to get my money. Apple will never be number one, on a number two carrier.

I hope people take android seriously. That means, not making comments like 'it doesnt have the apple logo on it, it sucks'

Of course it sucks...it's an uneventful release and an irrelevant attempt at Apple's technological leadership.

You always end your initial posts with (insert product/business here) IS DEAD.

What's up with that?

I think Android will be one of the big players in the future of mobile and so will Apple. I prefer the iPhone. I like its usability and UI much better than Android. Android is also still catching up in many ways and is becoming fragmented as a platform.

Maybe it should have an option to have one, but I have no desire to have one cluster-f of an inbox for work, school, & personal email. :-)
