Does anybody know what might be going on here? The system wakes itself from sleep every hour or so. Here is the console system.log.

Do you have a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse?

My Mac Pro used to always wake itself up until i turned off "allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer"

Every so often when my mac was asleep the muse would disconnect and so this would wake it up just like pulling a usb when asleep does.

Not to hijack a thread but if you disable BT devices to wake your MP how exactly do you wake it?

OP: I had this issue under Leopard. I could never figure out what was happening. I have the same setup under SL and the problem has not continued just yet. I suspect though that it could have only been a network/bluetooth/USB device. I turn my mouse off, leave my keyboard (BT) on, and hope for the best.

Ok thanks everyone. goMac may be on to something as Wake for network access was checked. I have unchecked it now so I'll report back with the results...

I had this problem and the culprit was an open window of Firefox of all things. The issue is fixed now though I can't recall whether it was a later version of Leopard or FF that fixed it. So check what apps are left open before you sleep -- try quitting everything and see if she wakes up.

Ok so i posted a potential solution to this problem and now i find that i have a problem related to this....!

So i advised at turning off 'Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer'... which i had done as i had waking issues in the past.

Today i accidentally hit some keys on my keyboard when my Mac Pro was asleep and it turned on!

So i checked my system preferences and the 'Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer' was checked.... problem is the option was greyed out so it is now ALWAYS ON!!!

Does anyone know how to help me with this...?

Very strange... Are you using the Mac Pro factory installed bluetooth card or are you using a dongle?

I'm having the same problem with Mac Pro waking, probably related to checking Wake for Ethernet network access; however, I want this checked so I can keep the machine asleep and then wake it from work using WakeOnLan when I need access.

As to the grayed out Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer, it is only grayed out when you have only bluetooth mouse and keyboard connected. I connected my old wired mouse and was then able to set this option and it stayed set until I disconnected the wired mouse then it rechecked itself and went gray again. Not sure why this is the default since you can still wake the machine by pressing the power button.

Mine used to do that with a third party DVD-writer I put in a couple of years ago, but then it died so I took it out. It hasn't done it since!

Is your MobileMe syncing? I think that is what wakes mine up. I have "Wake for Ethernet access" Checked, unchecked it for now to save the HDD from spinning up/down as often, only thing I have that I could think of that could be waking it up is MobileMe.

Google cal/gmail can be set up to sync etc too, not sure if this could also cause it?

Just throwing ideas out there.

When you use an Apple router and have "wake for network access" enabled, your computer's shared volumes will appear to other computers on the network, even if the computer hosting them is asleep. It will wake every hour to refresh the mappings, and then go back to sleep. If someone attempts to access the share, the computer (obviously) will wake up immediately.

If Energy Saver only shows "wake for ethernet access" then your computer isn't new enough to support WoL via the wireless card, so you won't have the problem unless you're using ethernet.
