I'm surprised that no one picked up on this article earlier, but here's the article: U2 'may release on iTunes early'.

Reuters quoted a source saying an early iTunes release may be "one of the alternatives" if music stolen from a French studio last week appeared.

Singer Bono told the Daily Telegraph this week they would "release it immediately" if the songs were found.

I think it is really awful what happened to U2. I hope they are able to find their CD, but if it does make its way on to the Internet, I think putting the album on the iTMS is an excellent idea.

U2 have a peculiar history of having things stolen (notebooks full of lyrics, etc.) and I wonder if this is just a stunt. And when I heard about it I asked "why don't they just rush the release?" itunes is probably the quickest, simplest, most publicity grabbing avenue.

Could be, o is a case of a very good band that is desired? Most of what I have heard from U2 is worth buying the CD for. Can't say that for many other artists.
