Jailbreak VS Unlock is it the same thing? New to iPhone

Hello, i just registered today and i'm waiting for my first iPhone with Orange UK (3Gs). I've been searching about iPhone and found a lot of forums with the word Jailbreak...so i wonder is it the same as unlock? (i know it's not factory unlock) I wonder after you jailbroke your iPhone, is that mean you can put any third party sim cards in as well???? I'm traveling to Malaysia for a month and it would be great if jailbreak means unlock :-)

Thanks in advance

Jailbreak = running non-Apple apps and mods

Unlock = using other cell networks.

You must be jailbroken to unlock.

You can already unlock the 3GS. Go here and educate yourself. Ultrasn0w.
