Question Recent Dropped Calls

Hey fellas, I've been a lurker here for a LONG TIME. First let me say that you've solved tons of issues for me and helped me pick many accessories so thanks! anyway I just wanted to ask if anyone has been experiencing a lot of dropped calls with the newest firmware? I LOVED my service when i first purchased my phone which was right when 3.0 software became available (iPhone 3G S BTW) everything has been great until recently. anytime I'm on the phone for more than 10 Min. at a time I seem to drop the call. My girlfriend who I also purchased the phone for at the same time has no such problem. Could this be a hardware issue that just reared it's head around the time of the newest software? and if so would I be able to just walk into an Apple store and swap my phone even though I purchased it through best buy? Sorry for the long post but I wanted to be thorough. I'm going to backup and then try to restore my software and see if that helps in the morning but if I'm still dropping calls I'd like to get it swapped. Thanks!

I have also been experiencing an increased amount of dropped calls recently, AT&T claims they are updating towers near me. Maybe if you let us know where you are we can see if people in your area are experiencing this as well.

As far as swapping it out, I always recommend going into the Apple store for problems with your Apple products, Best Buy will just want you to give money to the Geek Squad. Go to the Apple Genius Bar Reservation webpage and make a reservation and then go in. To give you a little insight as to what they'll do, they hook your iPhone up to a software and it will tell them what percentage of your calls are dropped. AT&T then has an "average percentage of dropped calls" which they provide Apple with and Apple will determine if it is the device or the provider based off of that. If it is below that percentage then they most likely wont exchange it since it's most likely the provider. I remember reading a while ago that the normal dropped call rate in New York City is 30%.

I hope it all works out for you.

I'm in Northern VA, and I got a lot of dropped calls today.

My mom wanted to use my phone to call one of my friend's mom's, and she called her house phone. I think she got 3 Call Failed's in that one ten minute conversation....
Then, she had to call another one of my friend's mom's also. She got one Call Failed that call.

That's a total of 4 dropped calls in 15-20 minutes of talking (If that).
