Hi, i have a g5 dual core 2.3ghz from late 05 modal with 4GB DDR533 certifed memory, recently i always had random KPs. i'd tried to reinstall a clean OS 10.5.8 right now still the same. Ran memtest everything seems fine. i didnt use any firewaire devices or usb, just the apple original alu keyboard and mighty mouse, 23inch Cinema HD lcd display monitor thats it!

Hope someone can help me with these issue and its annoying.

Check video card

Hi there - I had a similar problem with my G5 Dual 2.0 a few months ago, running latest version of Leopard... It usually wouldn't throw up the KP screen (sometimes it would), but it would hard freeze such that the mouse wouldn't even move ... It would happen at random regardless of whether I was doing anything or not, sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes after hours, always without warning ... Like you, I'd leave the machine downloading or whatever at night and wake up wondering who was cleaning my carpets...

I eventually tracked the problem down to the fan on the video card, an AGP Radeon 9800Pro. The little fan on the heatsink had seized. Thinking that replacement ATI fans would be hard to come by, I took the fan off, opened the oil well on the back of the fan and put a few drops of electric motor oil in, and then worked the fan assembly with my hand until it spun freely again...

After re-installing the fan, the freezing and KPs went away.

Check your video card! :)

my Video card was the passively cooled 6600GT 256Mb . well i'll try to put some thermal pastes and see how it goes and today i just test again by leaving the firefox turned on with the speed download, after 3 hours came back from town, it went black screen, fans on full blasts.. So i conclude it may be the Firefox triggered the KP/Black screen/Freezing issue. Will test again tonight by leaving the speed download + adium and see how it goes.

Thx for the suggestion LavenderCaptain
