After 1.5 years of waiting around to buy, I finally indulged and went for a 12" PowerBook at 1.33 GHz with 768 MB RAM (salesman got me to go from 512 to 768 for another $100 which was a savings of like $70, so I had to).

Anywho, I'm sitting here on my bed loving my new powerbook but I need to know what the coolest software is to download (preferably free--my bank account is going to be hurting now).

So far I've downloaded Adium and am going to demo Acquisition since I'm told it's a great P2P client. Anyone else have some ideas for good software to get in general?

So happy togetheeeeeeeeeer......

But now I must wait for the battery to die down. 2 hours, 19 minutes remaining! Damn, if this were a windows laptop that would drop to 38 minutes in no time!

Definitely recommend Acquisition.
Poisoned is my #2 OS X peer to peer program.
VLC is the BEST video player ( http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ )
Transmit is the best FTP client ( http://panic.com/transmit )
Do any of your friends use MSN Messenger? ( http://microsoft.com/mac )
Audacity is a decent free audio editor ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net )
AutoID is a good password manager ( http://batista.org/autoid.html )
Tomato Torrent for getting bittorrent files ( http://sarwat.net/bittorrent )
Toast isn't free, but it's the best cd/dvd burning program ( http://roxio.com )

There's a start at least!

I'd download Pith Helmet (or was it PithHelmet) from versiontracker.com. It blocks all banner adverts when using Safari. 🙂

Also, I don't think Acquisition is free, but acqlite is free and is the same thing, I believe. Also, Poisoned is pretty decent as well.

I have a program called wClock as well so that whenever I click on the Clock on the menu at the top, a calender shows up. That way, I don't have to wait for iCal to load! 🙂

And there's a tetris game called Quinn that I love to play. It doesn't have sound, but iTunes makes up for that anyway. 🙂

Konfabulator, some of the widgets are absolutely essential.
Azureus, a bit-torrent client.

enjoy your machine. 🙂

Is it even worth buying it? Tiger will have all that included! But if it integrates with Expose, I might buy it since I really like what it offers.

I look forward to lots of exploration on my new 'book. Thanks a lot everyone! I am now officially in the club. 😛

Well I have never bought it. I use the free download, then download it again when it expires 😀 . Thats because 25$ is a bit too steep for me.

I use aquisition/limewire for p2p stuff. Between those 2 clients i'm guaranteed to get what i want. Bit torrent is good for just about everything. If you want a few good websites private message me. All the movies i get with bit torrent i use VLC media player to open them. All of those are free.
