Another computer on the network is using your computers IP Address?

I keep getting this message on both my 27" iMac and my 13" MBP. What is going on an how do I fix this for someone that does not know a lot about networking.

I was using a wired connection to my iMac but recently switched to see how it ran. Can someone help me change what needs to be done so these to computers can play along one another.

Using a base station, DHCP, etc.

If you are manually entering the IP address, and did a automated transfer of you user to the new machine ... likely the manual IP address go cloned.

Change it ... add 1, 5, 10, etc. to the very last number in the IP address.

---

Click on the desktop to switch to the Finder, go up to help and type in IP address ... you should be able to find help on "Choosing a manual IP address or using DHCP"

Change this number on one of the machines.

192.168.1.104

When you see

Finder File Edit View Go Window Help

Click on

Finder File Edit View Go Window Help

And type in "IP Address"

Can also type in "IP Address" on the Help Menu in System Preferences/Network

System Preferences File Edit View Window Help

---

Most of the stuff that used to be in the paper manuals is now under the help menu.

---

Note: If you type in IP on the System Preferences Spotlight search bar. It also provides HELP.
