UK iPhone - Moving to FL for 9months - Advice

Hello,

I really want an iPhone 3Gs (i finally have a job again to afford one) - I want it on Pay&Go don't want to be tied into a contract... the thing is on February 2nd 2010 I'm moving to Orlando FL (to work with Walt Disney again) for 9months. I was gonna buy one over there, but it requires a 2-year contract. So my best option since I'll be coming back home is to get one here in the UK.

What are my options? I just don't know where to start.

Feel free to email me too jjmccrae@hotmail.com

Thanks.

Your best bet would be to get a PAYG iPhone over here and get it unlocked for use in the USA.

I would wait until Tuesday and see what O2's official unlocking policy is towards PAYG iPhones. Otherwise you will have to jailbreak and unlock yourself.

Tuesday? What's happening on Tuesday.
Was waiting for O2 representative to find answer while I posted my original question here... they said they will unlock the iPhone after 1 year. Until that point nothing they can do. Not even if I show them my travel/work visa, proof of my return and keeping my current O2 number active and using while being away.

Orange start selling the iPhone and the O2 iPhone unlocking web site goes live.

I've also heard you have to wait 12 months before unlocking PAYG iPhones but nothing official has been announced yet. Looks like you'll probably have to unlock one yourself or pay through the nose for an imported factory unlocked one.

I called Orange, guy said Orange will unlock iPhone after 3 months. O2 is defiantly a year - that's what they said, before going on hold and telling me to call back late next week... now i understand why.

Looked at unlocked iPhones on ebay, i won't mind spending that little bit extra, it does seem that much more, if i knew i was gonna get one that worked.
