Where are the $0.69 songs?

I don't know if this is just me, but I've yet to see a single $0.69 song. I thought apple was going to offer 3 different pricing tiers ($0.69, $0.99, $1.29) I see many $1.29 songs, but not a single $0.69.

What's up with that?

The .69 songs are the ones you would never, ever want to purchase.

Actually I see a lot of songs now going for $2.39. Too bad RIAA, I was buying my music again, through iTunes for $0.99 - now it's back to "sitting at the dock on the bay."

The $0.69 songs are very hard to find. If you look at various box sets you can find some of the unfinished or demo songs that are part of the set (mainly to include "everything band x ever recorded") may be available for $0.69.

I knew they wouldn't do many $0.69 songs. And I remember Jobs saying they'll have more $.99 and $.69 songs than $1.29.

I just go to Amazon MP3 anyways. A lot of their songs are still $0.99/.89 which beats iTunes ( I compared 5 popular songs and iTunes were 30% more expensive in 4 out 5 songs).

It's one more step, but I use Amazon too... hopefully the record companies see some data against this policy and work on better pricing on iTunes.

This is not as good as Linkin Park being removed from the iTunes store altogether, but it's a start.

The tiered pricing on iTunes is as much about making money as it is about breaking the iTMS stranglehold on the market. The labels are just as happy when you buy from Amazon at $0.99 as they are when you buy from iTMS for $1.29 (or $2.39). Do you really think Amazon had more clout than iTMS in negotiating their contract with the labels?

I credit Jobs and Co. with keeping the industry at the $0.99 price point for all of these years. The music industry would much rather have a few largish outlets they can basically dictate terms to than one behemoth with an 80+% market share.

If the world the RIAA Super Friends envisions comes to pass, you may find yourself longing for the day of $1.29 downloads.

They're probably the songs that no one listens to, like Polka and Classical (no offense to the people to listen to it!!!). I'm surprised that the songs in the top 10 aren't $.69 just so that even more people buy it.

I don't see a single Linkin Park song going for $2.39. Where are you seeing these prices?

FWIW I cannot find any $2.39 individual songs either... nor do I remember any announcement of such a thing. Unless you're talking about iTunes in a different country than the US. Now New Zealand has three tier pricing with a top price of $2.39 in their currency... but I don't see how that is here or there.

I did note that of the top 100 songs on iTunes (from the link on the main page), 10 are $0.99 and 90 are $1.29 (with no other prices represented).

I don't think I've ever found any .69 songs, if I have they're probably the ones you get for free when you buy an iPod.. The free songs of the week are 100x times better..

I've found some $0.69 songs, usually in the album listing and not very good tracks. Fortunately, most classical, reggae, and singer/songwriter tracks are $0.99 since that is what I buy. Usually the top 40 stuff is the $1.29.

I've never bought from Amazon but I think I will give it a whirl this week. I just hate searching through their site for mp3s, it's so clunky.

Sale!!! Any song you don't want and would never listen to is a penny!!!

Your welcome,

Your friendly neighborhood major record label. Screwing you over since time memorial.

I would have spent alot of money on music in my youth if we had $.99 songs instead of being asked to buy $10 cassettes with 1 or 2 good songs.

Actually, sad to say, but compared to those dark days $1.29 songs are the sht.

JUst be aware that Amazon too has songs for $1.29. It isn't just Apple.

Like the poster above who did a comparison, however, it seems to me also that, when I do comparison shop, songs are almost never more expensive on Amazon than iTunes, and in fact most of them are cheaper -- that user above estimated saving some 20-30% (I'm not exactly sure what was meant) by buying a not-completely-random sampling of 10 songs on Amazon instead of iTunes -- that kind of savings is what I see also, with at least 10% in almost all cases of buying multiple songs.

Jobs was on leave. I believe you're referring to Schiller, who gave this year's Macworld keynote.

"I can tell you we know already that more songs are going to be sold or offered at 69 [cents] than $1.29. So, it's going to be a benefit to a lot of customers."

Phil Schiller, Macworld '09 keynote address, 1:23 in:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/m...rancisco-2009/

Personally, I think if Jobs would not have been distracted by his health issues, the tiered pricing would have never happened. The pricing model on the iTunes Store now has to annoy him.

I firmly believe that without Jobs on leave we wouldn't have gotten copy&paste or MMS either. Have to take the good w/ the bad.

it seems amazon is much much cheaper than iTunes... plus you get a lot more "cheaper" music from there than iTunes. Apple knows that its customer base will dish out 2 bucks per song ... Amazon on the other hand is playing catchup with itunes and gives out as much free stuff as it can afford... imo go get the free/cheap stuff while it lasts

You know it's bad when the original Milli Vanilli album is 1.29 per song.

I have purchased several $0.69 cent songs from iTunes, but I admit that they are of the more obscure variety, old Motown stuff, etc I guess it's good for me that I don't really listen to current music because almost everything I buy from iTunes is in the $0.69 - $0.99 range.
