External display problem :(

Hi,

I have a 2007 macbook that is connected to sharp 32" display using HDMI (mini-DVI to HDMI, HDMI to HDMI).. i have calibrated the lcd and works good. The only problem is that the video on my sharp is stretched in all directions , this way i am missing certain parts of desktop on all sides... the biggest problem is the menu bar on top is outside screen area. I'm not able to disable the stretch in my sharp. Is there any utility by which i can zoom out the external display from my mac or contract the external video vertically and horizontally (like in one of the old CRT monitors)...

I really would appreciate any help.

OK...
so i was fiddling around with the resolution for the external display and i found out that if i disable the over scan the whole video contracts. This solves my problem but half way thru. I have black bars on all four sides now (the good part is now i can see the whole desktop). These black bars look hideous . Any way to remove them ?
