Connecting MacBookPro 13'' to HDTV

I'm looking into getting a Sanyo 26" 720p, and to use it as a monitor for my computer. Also getting it to watch Blu-Ray's on once I get a player.

This is the TV that I've been looking at. It's the best buy in consumer reports for 26'' TV's.

I've been looking around on how to connect my MacBook Pro 13'' to the HDTV. I know that it uses HDMI, and that's how I'd like to hook it up to the HDTV. I've seen some MiniDisplay Port - HDMI adapters,

One thing I saw was this...

What's the difference between male/female HDMI? Will the female one work with the HDTV?

What cables would I use to extend it? At least 3 ft. long, any HDMI cables that any of you specifically use? Most importantly that will fit the adapter.

Finally, I saw this on Amazon, that has a direct MiniDisplayPort to HDMI, is this what I'm looking for?

Even better, anybody else connect their MBP's to a HDTV using HDMI?

Hi,

The dongle on Amazon you linked us to should work. You would also need a standard HDMI male to HDMI male cable since the end of that adapter is female. And your TV's HDMI input is female as well.

Cable genders (male vs female) work just like they do with everything in nature... female ends have an "innie". Male ends have an "outtie". Two of the same gender won't link up, for obvious reasons. (not that there's anything wrong with trying! If that's your thing. I dunno. Anyway...)

You want the shortest HDMI cable you can get away with, since the signal degrades over longer cables. Also since you are buying an HDTV, it your new TV has a 120Hz refresh rate you may consider buying to get a cable that can accomodate the higher refresh rate, as opposed to the standard 60Hz. (Amazon or Ebay for cables- not the Electronics store).

What should I do for audio? I know HDMI won't carry the audio, what kind of cord am I looking for?
