Is there a way to hook up a Mac desktop, laptop and/or IPOD to bookshelf size speakers (these are high end) and even surround mini speakers? These speakers do not have their own amp built in.

I am not technical enough to know how to do this without help.

I want to get a new Mac for my girlfrined and I found these very cool bookshelf size speakers I wanted to hook the mac up to for incredible sound.

What do I need to do to make this happen?
Do I need an amp as well?
Do I need special cables?

The main speakers have the following specs

2 Ways Bassreflex, Not shielded
Recommended amp 20-75 watts
Peak Power 150 Watts
Impedance 4 Ohms
Efficiency 88db
Frequency Response 70Hz - 20 Khz

Thanks for the help.

Nothing yet.

I read somewhere that newer Macs have an amp inside that can be used and I saw the device the other poster suggested which looks like it could solve the
issue.

So how does one make this happen with an IPOD or a laptop?
